Description
The Tehachapi Loop is nearly 3800 feet long and in the shape of a helix. It rises 77 feet in elevation over the 1210 foot diameter loop. It was designed for trains to traverse the steep grade over the mountains. A train can actually pass over itself while traveling through this loop. Trains can be traveling east, west, north and south at this one location.
