Description
The Sherwin Range in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California frame Convict Lake, a favorite location for photographers and visitors. It is absolutely stunning. The edges of the ice floes on the lake draw the eye to majestic Laurel Mountain.
The unusual name of the lake refers to a time when convicts escaped prison in Carson City, Nevada in 1871. They took refuge at this lake. A shootout claimed the lives of some of the posse and convicts. Eventually the remaining convicts were tracked down.
